Happy 2015! Ok, I'm a little late but this deep freeze has me hibernating in my studio. Which isn't all that bad because lots of new work is being created! Here are a few in-progress shots of some custom client work I've been happily toiling away at. And a beautiful piece of writing that is keeping me inspired and reminds me of that death, winter, endings can bring new colour into this world. xo
Earlier this year, I embraced a new creative challenge, to make miniature artworks measuring 4x6 inches, every Monday using my beloved dead flowers. Before I dove in, I wondered how I would feel working so small, since I am used to larger spaces and I naturally like to work with space. To my surprise, I loved it and for the next 10 weeks, I created a new mini painting every week. You can see them all here. I combined the painted image with a poetry or verse that I found moving and have collected over the years. ( I am a big poetry nerd!)
As I took them around to markets and shows, I realized that people were quite fond of them and so I decided to turn them into greeting cards, making it easier to spread the love. And that is one of my dearest aspirations with my artwork. That my bit of art, inspiration and beauty can be accessible to anyone who ressonnates with it.
These cards will be up in my etsy shop this week. I'll post a link to them when they are ready. And if you are still here reading this, thank you for taking the time in a world with such possibility and busyness to take this in. xo
October is here! I love the fall and it's colours and the coziness it inspires in me. How about you? With a new month, there are some changes coming along, including new art notecards for sale, new print sizes of my original paintings in the shop and customized paintings. I will be telling you more about them all very shortly, so stay tuned!
I'll leave you with a little inspiration today, in the spirit of keeping something beautiful in your mind. Happy fall!
I have really been loving the mini paintings series. The act of creating one small fragrant world ever Monday feels like a very tangible way that I can consistently engage with my inspirations and also with you! Here are the last few I've created, with a few words about each to let you know what was the mood behind them. I hope you are enjoying this small but hopefully beautiful part of Mondays as much as I am.
"We were together, I forget the rest" by Walt Whitman. It reminds me of that good feeling we are full of when we're spending time with our favourite people.
"Earth laughs in flowers" by Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Just Love" The inspiration for the quote was really simple. As I was looking through my stash of versus and writing that I love I was feeling like life can sometimes be so full and maybe even a little overwhelming. And during these times it really comes down to this...just love. Give me just love and I have just what I need. XO
